It is recognized that metropolitan areas with populations of several million people are inherently vulnerable to extreme weather, such as torrential rainfall, lightning, and tornados. An increase in the occurrence of torrential rainfall, which may be due to global warming, can cause extensive damages to metropolitan areas. Thus, an understanding of the mechanism of extreme weather, a development of extreme weather early detection system / prediction system and to establish extreme weather information utilization system is urgent.

At this international symposium, we will introduce latest research trends and results of domestic and /or foreign extreme weather observation, prediction, and social experiments to clarify the current situations and issues.
